I hope everyone is enjoying a safe and rewarding summer season. At the BCRSP we have been busier than normal with the scheduling of the Health and Safety Professionals of Canada (HSPC) Conference which took place in July in Edmonton. Thank you to all the certificants and safety practitioners interested in learning more about certification who came to talk to us at the BCRSP booth.  BCRSP also hosted a Connect Event on July 15 during the HSPC conference, and it was a great opportunity to network with peers. I had the opportunity to speak to many of you about your concerns, and opportunities faced by the safety profession.

On August 6 we hosted a ‘Welcome to Denver’ reception for Canadians as a kick off to the American Society of Safety Professionals Safety 2024 conference. Thank you to all those who attended.

On September 13, we will host a breakfast Connect event prior to the start of the Fall Governing Board meeting in Kelowna, BC. For details and to RSVP, click here.

June Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The BCRSP AGM was held virtually on Thursday June 20, at 11 a.m. Eastern. I am pleased to advise we had record attendance for the AGM with over 450 certificants in attendance. This turnout at the AGM is a sign of a robust organization and the Governing Board is pleased that so many certificants are taking an interest in the annual meeting. A copy of the annual report has been published for those of you who were not able to attend, and it can be found on the website at: https://bcrsp.ca/en/about-us/about-us/annual-report.

June Board Meeting

In June, your Governing Board met in Moncton, New Brunswick where we hosted a Connect event breakfast for certificants in the local area.

Thank you to all who attended. Of special note at this breakfast, we also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CRBOH. Special thanks to the CRBOH Board of Directors for our ongoing collaboration. It is through these collaborative efforts that we can collectively grow the influence and recognition of the OHS profession. You can read more about the MOU here

The Board also had several key items on its agenda related to the strategic goals and we have several project plans in place that are moving strategies forward.

The June meeting was also the last meeting for several board members, and I would like to thank David Deveau, CRSP, Brenda Henry, CRSP, Buck Page, CRSP, and Sandy Stephens, LLB for their contributions to the Board over the past several years.

The Governing Board is also looking forward to 2026 which will be the BCRSP’s 50th Anniversary. The Board is looking at celebration options– please watch social media and future issues of the BCRSP Report for information.

CRSP® Examination Blueprint Review

Earlier this year, the BCRSP also assembled a task force of CRSPs to participate in the CRSP Examination Blueprint Update. The task force work culminated in a competency validation survey which had a 25% response rate from CRSP certificants – thank you to all who participated in this critical work.

The updated CRSP Examination Blueprint has now been published and will come into effect for the 2025 examination administration.  Read more about this update process here.

Another change to note is that the CRSP® examination writing time will be increased to 4 hours in 2025, and the examination fee will also increase to $200.00 Cdn.
