Examination Composition
Multiple-choice questions are developed to assess a sample of the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, and judgments (competencies) expected of safety professionals and technicians. There are two types of multiple-choice questions on BCRSP examinations – case-based and independent.
Independent Items
Stand-alone objective examination questions which contain the information necessary for responding.
Case-based Items
A set of three or more multiple-choice questions associated with a brief scenario.
Item Taxonomy
Each question on a BCRSP certification examination is classified into one of three categories adapted from Bloom’s Taxonomy of Cognitive Abilities. More specifically, each question is categorized into either knowledge/comprehension, application or critical thinking. The CRSP and CRST Examination Blueprints define the percentage of questions in each taxonomy that appear on an examination form.

Example of an independent multiple-choice question
STEM: Strong chemical odours were detected by workers in a research laboratory. The workers shared their concern with the safety professional. What should the safety professional recommend to best eliminate chemical odours in the laboratory?
OPTIONS:
1. Segregate chemicals in storage.
2. Clean work surfaces regularly.
3. Use chemical respirators.
4. Work in a fume hood.
