A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP®) is a nationally recognized certification for experienced occupational health and safety professionals in Canada. CRSP® certificants demonstrate broad-based expertise in identifying hazards, evaluating risks, developing safety management systems, and helping organizations create safer workplaces.

The CRSP® and CRST® certifications recognize different levels and scopes of occupational health and safety practice. The BCRSP establishes deadlines by which applications and all supporting documentation and fees must be received by in order to be processed in time for the next examination writing window. However, submitting an application by the deadline does not guarantee eligibility for the next window should the application be deficient in documentation and information for the Qualifications Review Committee to make a decision, or if the applicant is not qualified to proceed.

While the Governing Board strongly encourages that a BCRSP certification be listed as a minimum requirement for full-time OHS positions, it will accept web site postings without this requirement.

Postings to the Board’s web site have grown steadily and the site is a preferred posting location for all employment sectors across Canada.

In addition to providing career advancement opportunities to certified professionals, many potential certification candidates visit the “Careers in OHS ” page. This group includes college and university OHS graduates and recent or potential immigrants with strong OHS backgrounds looking for employment.

There are also occasions where employers are seeking specific OHS knowledge and competencies that may or not may not require a certification. As many BCRSP certificants hold other OHS designations and represent all employment sectors, a web site posting provides an excellent opportunity to advertise positions to a significant audience.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is the process through which certified professionals maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills, and competence throughout their careers. BCRSP certificants are required to participate in CPD activities to maintain their certification.

CPD ensures that certified professionals remain current with evolving legislation, standards, best practices, and emerging issues in occupational health and safety.

Maintaining certification through CPD demonstrates an ongoing commitment to professional excellence and public confidence.
