Collaborative Research Investment: Examining the Value of Using Safety Professionals

Mississauga (March 15, 2022) - The International Network of Safety and Health Professional Organisations (INSHPO), in collaboration with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), the BCSP Foundation, the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP), and the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), has announced a collective research investment directed at measuring the impact and value of using safety professionals in the workplace.

Requests for proposals for the topic 'Examine the value of using safety professionals, reviewing companies with and without safety professionals', will open March 14, 2022, and close on April 15, 2022. The study includes an $85,000 investment from the participating organizations and the study will last 12 months.

“Our goal is to advance the global body of knowledge in this area by building upon a 2007 UK study that measured the impact of quality safety interventions,” said President of INSHPO Greg Dearsly. “INSHPO is intent on building a shared understanding through investment in scientific research and dissemination of findings. We are pleased to have partners in this important pursuit.”

Submissions can be made at https://bcspfoundation.org/collaborative-research-investment/, and the proposals will be reviewed for scientific merit, impact, research team qualification, and budget justification. More information about submission requirements can also be found at the site listed above.

This research is expected to be accomplished using research methods that will evaluate the performance of companies with and without safety professionals. A scientific merit review will be facilitated by the BCSP Foundation with representation from each of the collaborative investment partners. Recommendations resulting from the formal review process will be sent to INSHPO for consideration with final selection made by May 20, 2022.
