Spring Greetings from the BCRSP

Hello Certificants and Happy Spring!

I am delighted to provide an update on the activities of the BCRSP.

Strategic Plan 2022-2025

I am pleased to announce that the Governing Board has completed and approved the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. The document has been refreshed and we have created a companion document that succinctly groups our priorities and goals into easy to read and interpret segments. Click here to review. This document is available on our website and is a quick reference tool for anyone who needs to speak to our strategy. As a complement to the strategic plan, an operational plan along with a living scorecard has also been created to ensure that the Board has oversight on progress.

Strategic Partnerships

The BCRSP is proud to be a partner and sponsor of Threads of Life. Steps for Life walks are scheduled across the country. You can find more information and register for an event in a location near you  Steps for Life - Threads of Life. Join us in this amazing initiative that supports families that have experienced workplace tragedies.

My team, Halifax Safe Striders, will be joining the movement in Point Pleasant Park 1000 on Saturday May 7, 2022. I hope to see you there.

National Volunteer Month National Volunteer Week (NVW) - Campaigns - Volunteer Canada

April is National Volunteer Month. To celebrate, BCRSP is highlighting the volunteer work of CRSTs and CRSPs. I would love to spotlight your volunteer experience in my next BCRSP Musings Blog. Simply send a summary of what motivates you to volunteer, how long you have been volunteering and any other activities you would like to highlight.

Speaking of volunteering, the BCRSP has an amazing opportunity for certificants to join the Internal Audit Committee. Volunteer Profile Form Internal Audit 2022.pdf (bcrsp.ca). My volunteer journey with the BCRSP started when I joined the internal audit committee in 2015. It was a very valuable and informative experience that enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the board, the committees and the management team. I was able to leverage these learnings and was selected to join the board of governors in 2017, eventually becoming the Chair of Board. I encourage certificates to consider applying for this volunteer opportunity as I am certain you will gain long lasting experiences that will be beneficial in all facets of life.

On March 19, myself and Nikki Wright, Executive Director, joined the Canadian Black Occupational Health and Safety Association for an engaging forum where we talked about the certification process, the benefits of certification and general Q&A. I am looking forward to creating more opportunities with this inspiring organization.

The BCRSP Accreditation Task Force (ATF) in now working towards a pilot of the Accreditation Standard. We will be posting more information on this process and a call for OHS post-secondary programs interested in volunteering as pilot sites in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for dates and details in the up coming months.

Mark your calendar for the 2022 Annual General Meeting on Monday June 13, 2022, 1000-1200 EDT. More information on the agenda and registration details will be distributed by the BCRSP when available.

We look forward to seeing and hearing from you.
