In My Own Words - Amy Gabriel, MAdmin, BBA, BEd, CRSP, DOHS

Why did you decide to pursue a CRSP Certification?
Throughout my educational pursuits, I have always strived to achieve the highest, most recognized and sought-after destinations. These pursuits have led me to achieve many educational accomplishments including multiple University degrees, a Masters in Administration (Leadership), and my CRSP certification. I believe that the CRSP provides another aspect to my professional portfolio that enhances my journey within the safety industry. I like to think of the CRSP as my competitive advantage in safety.

How did you find out about the Certification?
A while ago, a friend and I were scrolling through potential safety job advertisements. We found a safety job description that had required multiple designations but had not required a CRSP. My friend made a comment that, “he would never work for an organization in a safety position that did not require a CRSP.” For him, the CRSP was the highest standard in safety and he wanted to be aligned with the best and the brightest in the industry. It was at this precise moment, that I realized the necessity of obtaining the designation; as the designation would strategically position and align my career within the industry.

How long have you had your Certification and why do you still maintain it?
I received my designation a year and a half ago. I maintain the CRSP designation because it allows me to compete and to be aligned with like-minded, top notch Safety Professionals that have similar values as my own. Additionally, the designation also requires professional development, which is aligned with my internal need and philosophy of continually strengthening my safety skills and knowledge.

If you could give some advice to someone about why they should be a CRSP, what would you tell them?
I would tell them that the CRSP designation provides access to a foundation of safety knowledge and the confidence required to be an effective Safety Professional. I would also add that the CRSP will allow for a window of opportunities within their professional pursuits. Lastly, I would emphasize the positive aspect of the Maintenance Program as it requires the CRSP to gain and develop expertise and leading edge knowledge that will continually update their skills.
