The Position:
We are looking for a full-time, permanent Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) Advisor. The position will be located in either the Edmonton or Calgary office, reporting to the Director, Negotiations and Organizing. This in-scope position will be responsible for the provision of professional health, safety and wellness advice, advocacy, and education to our membership. Working closely with the Senior Advisor, Health, Safety and Wellness, and our Labour Relations team, the successful applicant will engage with members and worksite representatives to identify hazards and recommend practical controls, advocate with employers on worksite concerns, support Joint Worksite Health and Safety Committees, conduct research and policy analysis, and facilitate workshops and webinars.
What You Bring:
You are an energetic, value-driven individual with a minimum of three years’ progressive experience in occupational health and safety. You have obtained a university degree in a related discipline, in addition to a certificate or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, and you hold current registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP). You bring experience leading or supporting Joint Worksite Health and Safety Committees, facilitating learning sessions, and developing policy analysis and recommendations.
Preference will be given to applicants with occupational health and safety experience in a unionized or health care environment. You have a demonstrated ability to assess workplace hazards, apply occupational health and safety legislation, and advocate with employers for practical, evidence-based controls. An ability to translate technical findings and data into practical guidance utilizing various communication styles and methods is essential. You are proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and Power BI. You have a thorough understanding of and commitment to trade union philosophy and public healthcare. You are able to manage your time effectively but occasionally work outside of regular business hours with the ability to travel throughout Alberta, as required. You possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
