Position and Responsibilities

As a member of the protective services department, the Health Safety Technician is responsible for fostering a positive safety culture, ensuring the site compliance with occupational health and safety regulatory requirements, recommending accepted industry or best practices for health safety, and assisting with the implementation, maintenance and training of site safety programs and procedures.

You will support the company’s policies, procedures, goals and objectives to promote a safe culture and productive workplace, which includes a comprehensive hazard identification program and processes. The health safety technician is responsible for the inspection, calibration and maintenance of health safety equipment; workplace monitoring for physical, chemical and biological agents; resolving safety concerns; delivering health safety related training; participating in committees;  updating procedures and forms; and performing safety functions in an emergency situation. Other duties may be assigned based on knowledge, experience and skills.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Thorough understanding of occupational health and safety legislation (preferably federal) and the ability to advise corrective actions and facilitate change
  • Strong leadership skills and excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including word, excel, outlook and powerpoint
  • Ability to work collaboratively and proactively in a team environment

Asset:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Technician
