Position Summary

The OH&S Advisor is committed to fostering a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of staff and aligns with the organization’s mission and values.
Their role encompasses identifying Occupational Health and Safety training and coaching opportunities at all levels, ensuring that staff have the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain a safe work environment. The OH&S Advisor provides strategic operational planning and execution, focusing on adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards. This includes developing and implementing best practices for safety protocols, procedures, and policies, tailored to the specific needs of the organization.
Moreover, the OH&S Advisor ensures ongoing compliance with evolving local, provincial, and federal regulations, ensuring that Mosaic PCN remains at the forefront of safety standards. By conducting through assessments of work environments, they proactively identify potential hazards, develop mitigation strategies, and establish controls to reduce risks. Their work directly contributes to safeguarding employees and the integrity of Mosaic PCN properties, while promoting sustainable and safe workplace practices that support the organization’s long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities
Incident Management
- Lead comprehensive investigations of work-related injuries, near-misses, and property damage incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and analysis.
- Accurately classify incidents, perform detailed root cause analyses, and develop and implement effective corrective actions.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and conduct safety assessments to proactively engineer out potential risks, enhancing the overall safety of the workplace.
Audits, Compliance & Reporting
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of COR certification.
- Maintain and continuously improve health and safety management systems.
- Recommend and develop safety procedures, policies, and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in conducting internal audits of safety controls and measures, including safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eye wash stations, and the Safety Date Sheet (SDS) to ensure readiness for external audits.
- Conduct workplace inspections and assess work setups to ensure safety standards are met and enhanced.
- Supervise the installation of safety features and the implementation of safer operational procedures.
On-Site Support
- Support the implementation of HSE system requirements, actively participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, and coordinate emergency response planning.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization and provide actionable feedback during HSE meetings.
- Lead and coordinate the execution of the emergency response plan during incidents, ensuring a swift and organized response.
- Identify and address gaps in emergency response plans to enhance preparedness and effectiveness.
- Conduct regular inspections of premises to identify fire hazards and ensure adequate fire protection measures are in place.
Communication, Training & Development
- Deliver comprehensive HSE training programs, including new hire orientations and toolbox talks.
- Ensure all training programs comply with legislative requirements and align with internal standards.
- Advocate for safe work practices and lead initiatives focused on injury and fatality prevention.
Relationships Management
- Cultivate and uphold leadership accountability, with a strategic vision to develop scalable and sustainable health and safety best practices.
- Collaborate closely with Learning and Development, Human Resources, Clinical, and Business Operations teams to ensure alignment and integration of safety initiatives.
Other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- A degree with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience, or a diploma with a minimum of four (4) years of directly related experience.
- A certificate in Occupational Health and Safety such as the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), or certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), the Health and Safety Professionals Canada (HSPC), or the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is considered a major asset.
- Internal COR Auditor certificate would be considered an asset.
Experience
- Knowledge of effective collaboration between unionized employees and management is an asset.
- Experience in implementing and maintaining COR certification.
- Experience in implementing changes to OHS programs and processes.
- Proven track record in developing and enhancing OHS programs.
- Strong understanding of enforcement and compliance procedures.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and database management.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

Working Conditions
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
- Ability to travel on public transportation or valid driver’s license with access to your own car in good repair is required.

- This position may be exposed to external environmental factors and weather conditions, and internal environmental factors such as offices and clinics.
