Chair's Report August 2021

Robin Angel CRSP

Gwe, Halò, Bonjour, Hello, from Canada’s Ocean Playground!

My first message as the Chair of the BCRSP comes to you from beautiful Nova Scotia.

July marked a transition for the Governing Board. I would like to thank and acknowledge the contributions of Marianne Matichuk, Dave Rebbitt, Mark Fernandes and Peter Sturm who have completed their governor terms.

The Governing Board welcomes new governors Dave Deveau (Nova Scotia), Larry Masotti (Ontario), Brenda Henry (Ontario) and Buck Page (British Columbia) who have all participated in a virtual board orientation, and virtual training on diversity & inclusion, and the BCRSP’s Risk Management Framework.

New to the Executive Committee are Paul Belair as Vice Chair and Mark Fernandes as Secretary. David Larson continues for another term as Treasurer. David Johnston has transitioned to the role of Past Chair.

During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June we had great attendance and engagement. A review of the Questions & Answers shows that the main themes were around communication, diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI), finances and advocacy for the profession. The feedback from the AGM will be considered when we create the 5-year strategic plan.

Speaking of the strategic plan, one of the foremost undertakings for the Governing Board this year will be to complete a full review of the strategic plan and update where required the goals under our pillars of capability, advocacy, engagement, and operational excellence. The Governing Board will also ensure the strategic plan is aligned with the BCRSP’s mandate, vision and mission. I would encourage certificants to submit feedback and input on the strategic plan review.

BCRSP has now hosted two virtual AGMs and the attendance at these virtual AGMs is the highest that we have seen. Given the amount of interest the Governing Board is considering offering a hybrid model for future AGMs.This would be inclusive to those who cannot attend in person and still allow for in-person contact with a local audience.

I am thrilled, honoured and humbled by this amazing opportunity to be chair of an organization for which I have the utmost passion.

I look forward to connecting with you over the coming months.
