Position Overview:

Navacon Construction is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a secure and healthy work environment on construction sites. Tasked with responsibility for the Health & Safety Program at Navacon, the coordinators' responsibilities encompass various key aspects, ranging from implementing and enforcing safety policies and procedures, coordinating training, compliance monitoring, and collaborating with project managers, site supervisors, and workers to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be the safety champion for Navacon! Support, promote, and enforce the occupational health and safety program and policies.
  • Assist in attaining certified program status (i.e. ISO, COR) and all relevant internal and external audits.
  • Ensure that all safety regulations, guidelines and procedures are implemented and adhered to.
  • Ensure ongoing H&S Program compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Track and coordinate all employee H&S training.
  • Provide support to and ensure the regular completion of site inspections, job site hazard analyses, and safety talks.
  • Assist in thoroughly investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses, where necessary and following up where required, including communicating to, training and following up with supervisors and site personnel. This includes ensuring Incident Reports are completed and submitted on a timely basis.
  • Respond to employees' safety concerns.
  • Collection and administration of all H&S documentation.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation and monitoring of job site emergency response plans.
  • Maintaining company emergency equipment inventory and PPE (i.e. first aid kits, fire extinguishers).
  • Provide knowledge and leadership as management representative and chair of JHSC.
  • Act as a liaison with external safety organizations and regulatory agencies (i.e. Ministry inspectors).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Post-secondary school diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field of study.
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Ontario) and Construction regulations.
  • Onsite construction H&S experience is a strong asset.
  • Experience with investigations, inspections, and job hazard analyses.
  • Experience assisting with the implementation and ongoing maintenance of a certified H&S program is an asset.
  • CRSP, NCSO or related safety certification or designation is considered a strong asset.

Additional Considerations:

  • Valid Ontario driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • This role will involve regularly travelling to job sites.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $60,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
