Wellness & Safety Advisor
Are you a dynamic and progressive human resources professional with a keen interest in employee and workplace wellness and safety? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) as the Wellness & Safety Advisor for a temporary maternity leave backfill from March 2026 to approximately September 2027.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources Division, the Wellness & Safety Advisor develops, coordinates and monitors the implementation of an employee-focused Wellness Program and supports a prevention-focused Safety Program in all CVRD departments. The Wellness & Safety Advisor also assists with ensuring the effective use of supportive employee benefit programs, including Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Critical Illness insurance and researches improvements and new initiatives. The Wellness & Safety Advisor supports the Safety Officer in CVRD-wide and occupational health and safety initiatives.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Secondary school graduation plus post-secondary certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or Human Resources with courses in Organizational Psychology / Organizational Behaviour, Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Mental Health First Aid, Ergonomics, Health Promotion, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience administering or coordinating an organizational health and safety or wellness program, preferably in a local government, public employer, or unionized setting.
- Occupational First Aid Level 2 and Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- Assets include training in employee benefits and / or disability management, Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

What We Offer:
- Salary range of $78,484.30 to $91,729.29 per year, commensurate with education, training, and experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and insurance benefits, vacation pay, and pension contributions after the first year.
- 35-hour full-time work week, with some evening and weekend work to meet operational requirements, and the opportunity to participate in the CVRD’s Flex Time Program.
- Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the CVRD has a Work From Home program. This program allows staff to work remotely, with the number of remote days per week determined by operational requirements, from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a CVRD worksite. This position works from the CVRD's main office in Duncan, BC, and at this time, is eligible to be part of the Work From Home program, potentially working a hybrid in-office / remote schedule after a successful in-office training period. Please note, this is not a fully remote opportunity – a regular on-site presence is required.
