The Health and Safety Manager, reports to the COO/CFO for Canada and USA. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Canadian Federal health & safety legislation under the Canada Labor Code Part II, Provincial Occupational Health & Safety Acts, and Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA). The position with execute health and safety programs that promote a culture of safety, to reduce risks, and ensure regulatory compliance through an effective level of work ethics, professionalism, and commitment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Drive employee engagement across HGC towards maintaining a safety culture.
- Engage with Leadership on Safety Audits, Workplace Inspections to establish adequate action plans and resolutions.
- Manage the certification of JHSC / H&S committees, provide timely guidance, support and resources for corrective actions as required.
- Adapt applicable Health & Safety legislation into policies and procedures, SOP’s within the Health & Safety Management Program to ensure compliance within required timeframes.
- Develop communications for various H&S initiatives and new changes.
- Review H&S Training Programs for updates and deliver training as needed.
- Manage the Safety Management System “PHS” and provide management reports in support of continuous monitoring.
- Monitor and inspect work sites to ensure hazard controls are implemented.
- Maintain HGC Safety Compliance Training Programs and provide reporting to Leadership.
- Develop / Update SOP’s or Training Resources for Operations and provide technical guidance as required.
- Conduct workplace harassment & violence investigations and prepare comprehensive reports for review and corrective actions. Engage with external resources as required.
- Prepare and analyze employee data reports and submit Annual Compliance Reporting (Federal Employer's Annual Hazardous Occurrence Report (EAHOR) and Employer's Annual Harassment and Violence Occurrence Report (EAHVOR).
- Provide various multi-source reports (Truck Right, Citation) required for compliance maintenance with ISN-CA and ISN-USA (Compliance Training, Analysis, Vendor requests, etc.)
- Prepare the Annual OSHA Form 300, 300A and 301 for filing and distribute to HAI-USA for posting.
- Monitor and track HGC employee workplace injuries/accidents using PHS, maintain user database and resolve PHS services issues.
- Maintain accurate and timely Workplace Injury Logs and validate prior to release of Monthly Injury Reporting.
- Oversee employee incidents/accidents for WCB / WSIB / CNESST and US workplace injury Reporting and Return to Work Programs.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and other relevant applications.
- Ability to create quality documentation and communications.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage employee data, identify gaps and support continuous improvement.
- Ability to abide by Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, Confidentiality and maintain privacy of employee information.
Education and Experience:
- University or College degree/diploma or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field.
- Safety Certification Training.
- Minimum 5 years recent of relevant experience in Health & Safety leadership, preferably in the transportation & logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of Canada Labour Code Part II, Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations, Minnesota OSHA and U.S. OSHA standards.
- Certified safety professional designation (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, CSP, or equivalent).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience facilitating safety training across multiple locations.
Work Conditions
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel (20%) to company locations.
