Role

This position reports to and is accountable to the Assistant Director, Facilities, Safety, Security and Risk Management and is the primary point of contact for security, de-escalation and conflict management across the Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL).

The Coordinator leads GVPL’s system-wide security and incident-response programs, develops safe-space strategies, monitors and investigates incidents, and provides functional direction to contracted security personnel to ensure a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for staff, patrons, volunteers and service providers.

Under the Assistant Director, the position also coordinates GVPL’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs, business continuity planning, and risk management activities. During emergencies the Coordinator may act as a designated Incident Commander with delegated authority to implement immediate risk-mitigation measures.

All duties are carried out adhering to Greater Victoria Public Library’s (GVPL) policies, procedures, standards and resources, and within provincial legislation and regulations, e.g. Workers’ Compensation Act, Human Rights Code, and collective agreement.

 

Details 

  • Work schedule:  Line 8: Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Schedule is subject to change based on operational requirements.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.
