Monica Szabo, CRSP Appointed BCRSP Governing Board Chair

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – July 1, 2019 The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) appoints Monica Szabo, CRSP as Governing Board Chair effective July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. Monica Szabo is the twenty-fourth Chair since the certification body’s incorporation in 1976 and succeeds Kevin Dawson who has served as Chair since July 2018.

As the BCRSP Governing Board Chair, Monica Szabo will lead the Governing Board through the execution of its strategic plan and vision.

As an OHS consultant based out of Toronto, Ontario, Monica has over 25 years of experience in environment, health and safety, and is a senior leader who has built a reputation for developing progressive and results-oriented health and safety solutions for the broader public sector. In addition to holding a CRSP, Monica is a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), an ABIH/BCSP Certified Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) and a Certified Municipal Manager (CMM III). She completed the Queen’s Operations Leadership Program in 2006 and the Niagara Institutes’ Executive Leadership program in 2015. Ms. Szabo has been a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)® since 1993.

Joining Monica on the 2019-20 Governing Board are newly appointed officers David Johnston, CRSP (Vice Chair), Robin Angel, CRSP (Secretary-Treasurer), and Kevin Dawson, CRSP in his new role of Past Chair.  Newly elected Governors include Tehzin Chadwick, BSc, MHSc, CRSP, ROH, CIH;  David Larson, CSP, CFPS, ARM, CRSP, and Peter Sturm, BA, CHSC, CRSP, and returning Governors include Paul Belair, MBA, CRSP; Mark Fernandes, MBA, CRSP, Marianne Matichuk, CRSP, CHSC, COHS, CNM, Dave Rebbitt, MBA, CRSP, CHSC, CET, CD and Sandra Stephens, LLB, LLM (Public Member) and Executive Director Nicola J. Wright, BA (Hons), CAE.

The new Board officially began their term July 1, 2019.

The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals is a public interest, not-for-profit, federally incorporated self-regulating organization which sets the certification standards for the OHS profession. BCRSP strives to advance the body of knowledge, the competency of the profession, and the value our certificants bring to society. The Board governs its certificants in order that the public interest may be served and protected.
