The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) is pleased to announce that the Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification was awarded accreditation by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) under the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard for the certification of persons. ISO 17024 accreditation by SCC was granted for the CRST certification on March 24, 2021.

“It is extremely important when the role of the BCRSP is assessing the competence of others, that we demonstrate our processes have been verified by a third party. Third party accreditation helps signal to the employer that the holder of a BCRSP credential has undergone a valid, fair, and reliable assessment to verify that they have the necessary competencies to practice,” says David Johnston, CRSP, EP, Chair, BCRSP Governing Board.

The CRST certification, along with the already accredited Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification raise the standards for the occupational health and safety profession. ISO 17024 contains general requirements for personal certification bodies like the BCRSP, to ensure that their certification scheme is relevant, credible, independent and systematic and is considered the gold standard accreditation for the certification of persons.

The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals is a public interest, not-for-profit, federally incorporated self-regulating organization which sets the certification standards for the OHS profession. BCRSP strives to advance the body of knowledge, the competency of the profession, and the value our certificants bring to society. The BCRSP grants the CRSP® and CRST certifications to individuals who successfully complete the certification process through application assessment, interview, and examination.

The Board governs its certificants in order that the public interest may be served and protected.
