MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – July 10, 2017 - The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 BCRSP OHS Student Scholarships. Congratulations to Vanna Lymberopoulos, from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), and Laura Hodges, from Ryerson University.

The recipients will each receive a $4,000 cash scholarship from the BCRSP. In recognition of each of the respective programs that Ms. Lymberopoulos and Ms. Hodges attended, the BCRSP will award $1,000 to BCIT’s OHS Diploma Program, and Ryerson University’s BASc program in OHS.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this scholarship from such a prestigious organization. I am excited to embark on my career in the health and safety field, and I look forward to applying for the CRSP® certification in three years! I am currently working at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada as the Occupational Health and Safety Assistant.” said Laura Hodges, scholarship recipient from Ryerson University’s OHS degree program.

“I am extremely appreciative of the support the BCRSP has provided me. I am very excited to start my career as a safety professional at the University British Columbia as a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Trainer and Auditor Associate. I can’t wait to obtain my CRSP® designation and continually grow within the safety profession." Said Vanna Lymberopoulos, scholarship recipient from BCIT’s diploma program.

Awarded annually, two (2) $4,000 national scholarships are available to students enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in a two, three or four-year occupational health and safety related program leading to an occupational health and safety certificate, diploma or degree at the undergraduate level. In addition to the scholarship of $4,000, the scholarship recipients receive a credit coupon for the value of the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)® application fee.

Ms. Lymberopoulos and Ms. Hodges met the scholarship’s academic eligibility requirements, and their essays on what benefits an occupational health & safety professional can provide to an organization were highly rated by the Scholarship Review Committee. The essays of both recipients are available on the BCRSP website.

The BCRSP hopes that the scholarships will encourage and assist other students to enroll in OHS programs and bring awareness of the health and safety professional in today’s workplace.
