Frequently Asked Questions
As part of the BCRSP’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, the Certification Maintenance Committee (CMC) was tasked with undertaking a review of the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) to make any recommendations to the Governing Board for program updates. The CMC conducted an environmental scan of recertification programs, as well as reviewed research on recertification and continuing competency published by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. Based on these inputs, as well as a review of the program feedback to date, recommendations to update the program were made.
Earning the CRSP certification provides recognition and professional credibility to the CRSP. Employers, and other stakeholders use the CRSP certification to identify qualified individuals and it is essential that the CRSP credential provides assurance that CRSPs have met, and will continue to meet, a professional standard and that they will perform safely and effectively in their designated role.1

The Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) has been given an updated name of the Continuous Professional Development Program (CPD Program). The name change more accurately reflects the intent of the program.
Continuing Competence is defined as demonstrating ‘specified levels of knowledge, skills, or abilities not only at the time of initial certification but also throughout an individuals’ career.
The program will be transitioned in over the next two and a half years so by December 31, 2020, all certificants will be submitting under the new program. If your submission is due before December 31, 2020 you will have the option to submit under the existing program, or under the new program.
A continuing education unit (CEU) is a measure used in continuing education programs to assist the professional to maintain his or her certification or license in their profession. BCRSP has adopted the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) standard. This standard equates 1 CEU to 10 contact/learning hours. This change will make it simpler to calculate hours, and simplifies the point claim for shorter courses whereby a 4-hour course is equivalent of .4 CEUs, an 8 hour course is .8 CEUs, etc.
Amendments to the CPD Program will be communicated to CRSPs through the newsletter and are posted to the BCRSP’s web site.
