Mississauga, Ontario. August 4, 2016. – The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 BCRSP Scholarships. Congratulations to Harry Wiseman from Keyin College’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and Tamsen Lahnalampi from Ryerson University’s School of Occupational & Public Health.

The recipients were selected out of four eligible submissions and will each receive a $4,000 cash scholarship from the BCRSP. All eligible submissions were reviewed and judged using an impartial process by the BCRSP’s Scholarship Review Committee.

The purpose of the scholarship program is to enable students to enter the occupational health and safety (OHS) profession in support of creating the healthiest and safest workplaces in the world, to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students in OHS, and to raise awareness of the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification amongst OHS students and faculty.

Students enrolled either full-time or part-time, in a two, three or four year OHS related program leading to an OHS certificate, diploma or degree at the undergraduate level were eligible for the two $4,000 national scholarships. In addition to the scholarship of $4,000, the recipients will receive a credit coupon for the value of the CRSP Application Fee. Scholarships are awarded annually by the BCRSP and submissions are due in March of each year.

Mr. Wiseman and Ms. Lahnalampi met the scholarship’s academic eligibility requirements, and their essays on what benefits an occupational health & safety professional can provide to an organization were highly rated by the Scholarship Review Committee. The essays of both recipients are available on the BCRSP website.

In recognition of each of the respective programs that Mr. Wiseman and Ms. Lahnalampi attended, the BCRSP will also present a $1,000 award to Keyin College’s, OHS Program and Ryerson University’s, School of Occupational & Public Health.

The BCRSP hopes that the scholarships will encourage and assist other students to enroll in OHS programs and also bring awareness of the health and safety professional in today’s workplace.
